UPCOMING NJSDA SCHOOL FACILITY PROJECT

NJSDA's Perth Amboy High School Project, the largest project in NJSDA history, with an estimated construction cost in the range of $215 million to $225 million, will soon be advertised to solicit bids for a Design-Build team to complete the design and construction services.  The project will consist of a 576,000 square foot, three-story school facility, to serve 2,800 students in Perth Amboy, Middlesex County, New Jersey.  Additional information on bidding for this project as well as other NJSDA bidding opportunities can be found at
 
HACKENSACK HOSPITAL TO CONSTRUCT 43,500-SQUARE-FOOT UTILITY PLANT 

Hackensack University Medical Center is moving forward with construction of a new 43,500 square foot central utility program.  The new plant will allow HUMC to condense utilities that are currently scattered across the hospital's campus.
 
The construction of the plant may also signal the first step of an anticipated renovation for the medical center. In early 2017, the hospital announced plans for a 300,000-square-foot tower on Second Street. The tower would add operating rooms and three floors of private rooms, officials said at the time. 
NJEFA BOARD REAUTHORIZES TAX-EXEMPT LEASING PROGRAM

It's getting easier for New Jersey colleges and universities to fund capital needs.  The New Jersey Educational Facilities Authority Board has unanimously voted to reauthorize and launch its Tax-Exempt Leasing Program ("TELP"). The modernized leasing program offers colleges and universities low-cost financing for various capital needs.
THREE FIRMS PLACE BIDS TO BUILD WIND FARMS OFF NJ COAST

The State Board of Public Utilities is reviewing three bids for offshore wind projects off the coast of New Jersey. 
 
Ørsted's "Ocean Wind", the Shell/EDF Renewables Joint Venture "Atlantic Shores" and Equinor's "Boardwalk Wind" each seek to satisfy New Jersey's solicitation for 1,100 megawatts of offshore wind energy.

ALLIANCE SHOWS SUPPORT FOR ATLANTIC CITY ELECTRIC

Alliance for Action Executive Vice President Jerry Keenan testified recently in favor of the Atlantic City Electric Regulatory Rate Review filing.   If approved by the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities, Atlantic City Electric will recover $109 million to modernize the local energy grid and improve resiliency.

GOVERNOR OUTLINES INFRASTRUCTURE INITIATIVES IN STATE OF THE STATE
 
Governor Murphy outlined his upcoming goals in yesterday's State of the State speech.  Key initiatives included his promise to rebuild New Jersey's water infrastructure network, fix New Jersey Transit and move forward with the state's goal of generating 3,500 megawatts off shore wind energy by the year 2030.  The Governor said each dollar invested in offshore wind energy will return nearly double to our economy and create thousands of good-paying new, union jobs.  He also pledged to continue working with Congress to seek funding for the Gateway Tunnel.
PSE&G ENERGY STRONG II PROMISES $2.5  BILLION CONSTRUCTION PROGRAM
PSE&G is moving forward with plans for its $2.5 billion Energy Strong II program.  Alliance for Action Executive Vice President Jerry Keenan testified in front of the BPU and said Energy Strong II would modernize, harden and make PSE&G's system more resilient.  It would also create more than 3,000 engineering, construction and other jobs.

MAJOR TRANSPORTATION INFRASTRUCTURE INVESTMENTS ANNOUNCED FOR 2019 

Bridge deck reconstruction, bridge extension and major repaving jobs are advancing forward as part of New Jersey Department of Transportation and the New Jersey Turnpike Authority plans to advance more than $1.1 billion in construction contracts for 2019.
 
The construction includes both projects that are already in the project pipeline and new work.
 
NJDOT Highlights
  • Route 80 from Fox Hill Road to Route 46 and from County Route 57 to I-95 - major repaving project (Bergen and Morris Counties).
  • Route 35 from Holmdel Road to Route 9 - major pavement project (Middlesex and Monmouth Counties).
  • Route 55 from Leaming Mill Road to Ellis Mill Road - major repaving project (Cumberland, Salem and Gloucester Counties). 
NJTA Highlights
  • Bridge decks at milepost 141 and 142 on the Garden State Parkway (Union County) will be reconstructed, extending the useful life of the roadway.
  • Turnpike bridges at mileposts 30.75 (Camden County) and 33.94 (Burlington County) will be lengthened to prepare for the future widening of the southern portion of the New Jersey Turnpike. 
REDEVELOPMENT AT DUNELLEN TRAIN STATION
 
Construction of a new 382 unit residential project alongside the Dunellen train station is expected to begin next summer.  The project has been announced by Prism Capital Partners 
GOVERNOR MURPHY NAMES ACTING CHIEF OF STAFF
 
Governor Murphy has named Kathleen Frangione as acting Chief of Staff effective January 16, 2019. She was previously Chief Policy Advisor to the Governor.  She replaces Pete Cammarano,  who announced his resignation last month.

New Jersey American Water, a subsidiary of American Water, has completed its acquisition of the Roxbury Water Co.
